Tonight I had the opportunity to be part of an incredible service at Realife, the student ministries at James River Assembly. Pastor Scotty had an amazing message centered on the Living Letters campaign. Over the past few months this scripture verse (2Cor. 3:2) has been challenging everything within me, but tonight it reached a whole new level.
His points were simple: 1) Evaluate what your letter is saying, 2) Edit out anything that doesn’t please God, and 3) Pray for those who will read your letter. In a nut shell his question was this: when people read your letter is it communicating God is non-existent, is it communicating God is distant, or is it communicating that God cares and saves.
When people are reading from one page to the next are they confused as to who God is, or at least who He is in your life? Or are they captivated by the story that is being written and want to know more?
Beyond that, the thing that hit me was the call to pray for those that are reading our individual letters. What a powerful thought! To intentionally pray for those that you either directly or indirectly interact with on a daily basis and desire that your letter points them to the creator of the universe.
